I know that it is (or was, I don’t know) a best-seller and that it was successful in everything, but it left me with a feeling of emptiness, but not emotional emptiness, but perhaps I was expecting something more.
While the story is sad and brilliantly told by John Green, a writer I learned about him not from this book, but from his YouTube channel called «Crash Course.» When I saw that he was the one who wrote this quite popular novel, I decided to read it.
Returning to the book, I like how Green mixes a tragedy with humor, the description of the characters and that they have spoken of a place other than the United States, such as Amsterdam.
A lot of people rate it as a 5 star book, but not for me. There are many cases like that of the protagonist and many cases like hers could be written, if there are not already.
Of course, it is aimed at young people, so the novel and the way of telling the book is dynamic, entertaining and with a good sense of humor, which makes it friendly, but I don’t know, maybe I was expecting something more serious for such a context. Maybe I’m too old to read these kinds of novels.
Recommendable? Absolutely! Not because I didn’t like it as much as the others, it’s a bad book. What happened to me with the book, in a nutshell is «I chew it, but I don’t swallow it»
Special mention for the author, whom I love, but not precisely for the book.
